Student Acceptable USE POLICY School District No. 8 and L.V. Rogers Secondary School (LVR), through computer workstations, Local Area Networks and the District Wide Area Network provide access for students to local network services. All secondary students must read and understand the Student Acceptable Use Guidelines and the following Secondary Student Network Agreement. Please sign the form on the back of this document, obtain permission from your parent(s)/guardian(s), and return this form to school. The Student Acceptable Use Guidelines will be explained and reviewed by your teacher. The following Secondary Student Network Agreement applies to all District and School Networks and includes single computer workstation connections to the Internet, the LVR Local Area Network and Intranets, local and provincial networks, and the Internet. Limited Educational Purposes ·SD8net has been established for limited educational purposes that include all classroom instructional activities, information literacy, career programs, and high-quality self-discovery activities. SD8net is not a public access service. L.V. Rogers and School District No. 8 have the right to place a restriction on the material you access or post through the system. You are expected to follow the rules set out in the School Code of Conduct and the provincial and federal laws. ·The use of district networks is not a right, but a privilege, and inappropriate use will result in cancellation of that privilege. Each student who receives an account or is provided with network access will receive instruction pertaining to the acceptable use of the network. L.V. Rogers and School District No. 8 will decided what is inappropriate and the decisions of school administrators are final. Responsibility of LVR Students ·Students will only use L.V. Rogers and District networks for limited educational purposes. Access to LVR and District networks and the Internet will only be provided after students receive permission from school administrative or teaching staff and then only under teacher supervision. ·Students are expected to be responsible for the individual accounts and passwords and should take all reasonable precautions to prevent other from being able to use their account. ·Students are expected to notify a teacher if a security problem arises or if an inappropriate message and/or materials are received or transmitted. Upon the request of a teacher or administrator, students are expected to grant full access to all their computer files, including email. Unacceptable Use of SD8 and LVR Networks ·Engaging in any activity contrary to the rules of the LVR School Code of Conduct. Engaging in any act considered illegal according to provincial or federal laws. ·Gaining unauthorized access or going beyond authorized access to SD8net or LVR or District computer system or network. Making deliberate attempts to disrupt a computer system, to destroy data or spread a computer virus. ·The posting of personal information about yourself or other people. Meeting with someone you have met online without the permission of your parent(s) or guardian(s). ·Using obscene, profane, lewd, vulgar, rude, inflammatory, threatening or disrespectful language. Accessing or posting material that is profane or obscene (i.e. pornography), advocates illegal acts, advocates violence or discriminates towards other people (i.e. hate literature). ·Using SD8net for commercial purposes or for obtaining commercial services through the Internet. ·Posting information that is false or may cause damage or a disruption within the school or community. ·Engaging in prejudicial or discriminatory attacks or harassing another person. Knowingly or recklessly posting false of defamatory information about a person or organization. ·Students will not plagiarize information found on school networks or the Internet. ·Students will not violate copyright restrictions and are expected to respect the copyright laws. Consequences of Unacceptable Use ·Infractions of the provisions set forth in the Student Acceptable Use Guidelines and the Secondary Student Network or the LVR Student Code of Conduct may result in suspension and/or termination of network access privileges and/or other disciplinary action or consequences as determined by the L.V. Rogers school administration. ·Activities in violation of provincial and federal laws will be subject to prosecution by those authorities. The School and District may take disciplinary action as appropriate. ·The administration and staff of LVR may request user accounts to be denied to specific students.
